Four not-too-scary photos

Hi Pink Paislee fans! It’s me Karola again. This time I want to share a layout I created using our beautiful Phantom collection, but in a non-Halloween theme. Ok, maybe a little bit… ;)

I believe that in every woman there is a little bit of a witch personality. I hope this is not a controversial opinion. Just remember all these nervous times when you simply go out of ourselves, we have totally enough of everything, nerves to bear us, and we are really horrible! Although on a daily basis we are quite nice and gentle ladies! I too have these days, and sometimes I feel really like a witch! My task for today was: make a Lo with four photos. Unfortunately, I don’t have any scary photos of me, I have nothing of what would be in Halloween theme, so I used quite ordinary photos – without a crooked witch nose, no pimples or scars, even without botox! But I decided to add some funny accents on photos and next to them. Thanks to Phantom collection it was very easy! See how you can easily create an “about me” layout with a great sense of black humor and distance to yourself!

I decided to add a one more color to this Halloween palette to make it a little bit different and unique. Used Mistables paper as a background with a “broken china” distress ink and a few Mistables Alphas. I love this color combination! I used here some of Phantom – Clear Transparent Frames, they are absolutely perfectly clear and very thick, so you can use it on your photos!

How do I add a little femininity to my LO – flowers are the best! You can use these from Phantom – Banner Kit.

Happy Dance: You Can Use Four Photos

Hello everyone! Karola here with another Lo and another personal fight to get 4 photos into 1 layout. But guess what? I LOVE it!

Until recently I had a lot of difficulties with the creation of multi-photos Lo’s, now I have found that a create with more than one or two pics gave me a lot of fun! Today I have a Lo with pictures of my daughter, captured during a walk in the late winter of this year. Rose loves to dance and so even during every walk we have another chance to see the show made by our little ballerina. This time I have photos of a vertical, so I decided to put them in a one horizontal line – this is the easiest and safe way to arrange several photos into one story.

In today’s Lo I combined the two collections – Butterfly Garden and the Daily Junque. I thought that doilies cut out from Butterfly Garden – Dew Drops paper and glued in many layers, and a few butterflies (biggest from Butterfly Garden – Butterfly Wings paper and small ones from Butterfly Garden – 6×6 Paper Pack) highlight the delicate and girlish theme of this Lo. Additional doilies I created using the fabulous doily clear stamp from the set Butterfly Garden – Impressions Clear Stamps.

Because there are a few darker accents on the pictures like jeans – perfect fit here arrows, which I cut out from the Daily Junque – Junque paper. Title I created using wooden letters - Daily Junque – Wood Alphabet, are fantastic, because we can add color on it in any way to fit as needed. I sprayed the letters by using Glimmer Mist – Tattered Leather, and I added on top of a little bit of pink acrylic paint.

Monday Muse – Fresh Holiday Colors!

Good morning, everyone! :)

There’s no doubt, being 31 sleeps away from Christmas, that you’ve been seeing Christmas decor, commercials, coffee choices, and even Christmas tunes popping up everywhere already! I love the holidays, and apart from all the lovely traditional winter goodies, something I love so much about them is finding really cool, fresh, and unexpected color combinations for my holiday cards and scrapbook pages – who wants the same old rich red and evergreen green in their scrapbooks year after year? Time to mix it up!

As I went to gather supplies for this Christmas card, I was super-inspired flipping through the two newest Pink Paislee collections, “Tinsel Town” and “Sweet Cakes”. I love the flourished trees and snowflakes of the more traditional Christmas collection (whose colors still break out of the typical Christmas box on their own..), but the bright pinks, yellows, lime greens, and oranges in “Sweet Cakes” really inspired me to break out of the traditional box and combine the two lines for a unique, new color twist on the typical Christmas card. Here’s what I came up with:

I love how the playful, warm yellows and oranges bounce off of the cooler pinks and greens – it feels really fresh and fun! A very happy feeling holiday card, I think! So this year, when you’re making your cards or packaging up gifts, instead of reaching for the tried and true reds and greens, take a chance and throw a little pinch of lime green or bright pink in and mix it up a little! :) Dabble in a color combination that’s unexpected and totally new to you – before jumping in, if you’re a little wary, compare swatches of colors, look for color combinations online using google, or line up the patterned papers you want to use, making sure they compliment one another before devoting yourself to them and cutting anything out. And most of all, have fun! Its unavoidable if you’re using such fun patterned paper and making heartfelt gifts for the ones you love. Happy day!

Paper Piecing – Tuesday’s Technique

Since scrapbooking has been around, so has paper-piecing, right? Or maybe its new to you, as a scrapbooker. Either way, being a younger-generation scrapbooker (hah! that sounds funny…), for the longest time I associated it with uncool, out-dated shapes and never pictured myself doing it for my own pages (I mean no offense by this, I’ve seen some lovely paper-pieced work, it was just never my thing!).

But – let me just say – my mind has been persuaded in recent years to try it myself after I found cool stamp images that I would actually love to piece together and add dimension to for my own scrapbook pages! The cool dinosaurs, cupcakes, and rockets in the “Vintage Pop” set, for instance, make me swoon and want to paper-piece like there’s no tomorrow! lol…so, I just can’t resist, now - my mind is forever changed! Paper-piecing is cool! And, when brainstorming this blog project, what with Halloween and costume decisions looming before us, these little “Vintage Pop” guys seemed like the perfect paper-pieced addition to a “Happy Dress-up Day” Halloween card! Here’s how I pieced together these little stamps to add some flair and fun to my card:

So, have I changed your mind? Can it be cool, to you, if you’ve never tried it before? If paper-piecing is new to you, or if its been pushed to the back of your bank-of-techniques in recent years, pull out some fun new Pink Paislee stamps and take a quick refresher course! You really only need a few scraps of patterned paper or cardstock to give a lot of oomph to stamped images, and if you keep the images simple, it’s really quick, too!

Here’s a quick how-to: Find a stamp image you want to use and look at the smaller parts of its bigger picture – does it have larger areas you can fill with color or pattern? Take, for example, the top pointed edge of the rocketship or the dinosaur’s teeth. Once you’ve decided which areas you’ll piece together, stamp the whole image on a piece of paper that will act as the base color. Then, stamp the same image/the parts of the image you need a few more times on the various different patterns or colors you need. Trim around these small areas and adhere them on top of the stamped base over the exact place these pieces are already stamped. Cut around the edge of the entire image, and voila! An updated, layered version of a classic technique we all know and love! Thanks so much for peeking – and have fun with your stamps!

Monday Muse – This n’ That

Hi there! Michelle, here, with a little Monday inspiration. And right off the bat, after making the page I made for this blog post, I have to admit – I can’t help but go a little embellishment crazy when I scrap! I have lots of fun adding and piling and making clusters of embellishments that I sometimes have to step back and remind myself that I need to leave room for a title and some journalling – (that’s where hidden journalling comes in handy, at times like it did on this layout!) he he! But really, its just so fun to pull out my Paislee goodies and use everything: stamps, rub-ons, transparencies, letter stickers, chipboard Topsiders, lovely patterned papers…they all coordinate so well together and its fun to mix and match!

A little of This n’ That is a fun way to scrap, take it from me! If its not your usual style to mix more than 5 different materials/techniques,/embellishments, why not try it out and test your creativity? Try layering the new Pink Paislee rub-ons underneath stamps or letter stickers to bring visual interest and draw the eye to those elements on your page. They’re an super-easy way to tie the design together and ‘distress’ the page a little. Mix-up your letter stickers throughout different words in your title – they come in so many great colors its hard not to want to try them all! Try stamping directly onto the chipboard Topsiders’ sticker surface with Stazon ink, or cover chipboard shapes with coordinating patterned paper. Paint on the back of one of the new transparencies as the base of your page and leave the lovely iridescent pattern peeking out!

Or do every one of those things on one page, like I did! I truly think I used almost one of every product Pink Paislee has to offer on this page! lol! And I encourage you to try as many products and techniques you can – just play! Have fun! The wealth of textures, patterns, and colors you’ll find from combining elements is just so lovely and maybe you’ll be addicted to it like me in no time! Here’s what I had so much fun making:
