Product Pick: Canvas Borders

Hi there! Danielle here with some quick ideas for you on how to use the lovely canvas borders by Pink Paislee! I am working with the canvas borders from the Sweetness line today:

I have made a set of 3 cards to show a few techniques!

On the “14″ card below, I used the border to line the top of my pocket. The felt Doodad is attached to a tag and tucked into the pocket.

On the butterfly card below, I found an old chipboard butterfly in my stash and layered the canvas borders on it. I started at the bottom with one layer, then a middle layer over the top of that, and then a layer on the top. I turned the butterfly over and trimmed the excess off with my scissors. I added a little bit of brown chalk on the bottom of each layer, so you could see the layers a bit more here. The borders are sticky, so you don’t even need adhesive! See the background? The yellow text in the background of this card is a Sweetness Clear Card layered over creme cardstock.

On this last card, I pinched the border together every inch or so to create pleats and then used it as sort of a “rainbow” on this card. What is great is that since it is sticky, you can just pinch and pleat very quickly and it stays together by itself. If you make a mistake, it’s easy to pull apart and start over. I ADORE these heart buttons (Metal Badges) by Pink Paislee on the end of my rainbow!

As you can see, I used a 2″ circle punch to make a peekaboo window in the card. Then I added a felt Doodad by Pink Paislee on the inside.

These little Doodads come with gems on them already, so cute. And easy. They are already adhesive on the back just like the borders!

Of course, there are many other things you can do with these canvas borders, such as stitching on them, forming them into flowers, and you can even peel off the stickiness from the back and pull the canvas apart to create strings and give it a shabby look. How about cutting them up and creating journaling lines on a layout? Or framing out a photo with them? SO many fun things you can do!

Monday Muse – Fresh Holiday Colors!

Good morning, everyone! :)

There’s no doubt, being 31 sleeps away from Christmas, that you’ve been seeing Christmas decor, commercials, coffee choices, and even Christmas tunes popping up everywhere already! I love the holidays, and apart from all the lovely traditional winter goodies, something I love so much about them is finding really cool, fresh, and unexpected color combinations for my holiday cards and scrapbook pages – who wants the same old rich red and evergreen green in their scrapbooks year after year? Time to mix it up!

As I went to gather supplies for this Christmas card, I was super-inspired flipping through the two newest Pink Paislee collections, “Tinsel Town” and “Sweet Cakes”. I love the flourished trees and snowflakes of the more traditional Christmas collection (whose colors still break out of the typical Christmas box on their own..), but the bright pinks, yellows, lime greens, and oranges in “Sweet Cakes” really inspired me to break out of the traditional box and combine the two lines for a unique, new color twist on the typical Christmas card. Here’s what I came up with:

I love how the playful, warm yellows and oranges bounce off of the cooler pinks and greens – it feels really fresh and fun! A very happy feeling holiday card, I think! So this year, when you’re making your cards or packaging up gifts, instead of reaching for the tried and true reds and greens, take a chance and throw a little pinch of lime green or bright pink in and mix it up a little! :) Dabble in a color combination that’s unexpected and totally new to you – before jumping in, if you’re a little wary, compare swatches of colors, look for color combinations online using google, or line up the patterned papers you want to use, making sure they compliment one another before devoting yourself to them and cutting anything out. And most of all, have fun! Its unavoidable if you’re using such fun patterned paper and making heartfelt gifts for the ones you love. Happy day!

Monday Muse – This n’ That

Hi there! Michelle, here, with a little Monday inspiration. And right off the bat, after making the page I made for this blog post, I have to admit – I can’t help but go a little embellishment crazy when I scrap! I have lots of fun adding and piling and making clusters of embellishments that I sometimes have to step back and remind myself that I need to leave room for a title and some journalling – (that’s where hidden journalling comes in handy, at times like it did on this layout!) he he! But really, its just so fun to pull out my Paislee goodies and use everything: stamps, rub-ons, transparencies, letter stickers, chipboard Topsiders, lovely patterned papers…they all coordinate so well together and its fun to mix and match!

A little of This n’ That is a fun way to scrap, take it from me! If its not your usual style to mix more than 5 different materials/techniques,/embellishments, why not try it out and test your creativity? Try layering the new Pink Paislee rub-ons underneath stamps or letter stickers to bring visual interest and draw the eye to those elements on your page. They’re an super-easy way to tie the design together and ‘distress’ the page a little. Mix-up your letter stickers throughout different words in your title – they come in so many great colors its hard not to want to try them all! Try stamping directly onto the chipboard Topsiders’ sticker surface with Stazon ink, or cover chipboard shapes with coordinating patterned paper. Paint on the back of one of the new transparencies as the base of your page and leave the lovely iridescent pattern peeking out!

Or do every one of those things on one page, like I did! I truly think I used almost one of every product Pink Paislee has to offer on this page! lol! And I encourage you to try as many products and techniques you can – just play! Have fun! The wealth of textures, patterns, and colors you’ll find from combining elements is just so lovely and maybe you’ll be addicted to it like me in no time! Here’s what I had so much fun making:

And for a little more inspiration, don’t forget to scroll down the blog to see the yummy “Tinsel Town” and “Sweet Cakes” new line reveals below!! Eeek! Love them to bits! Now, off to scrap you go with ideas whirling in your head, right? Thanks for stopping by, and happy scrapping!
