Mix It Up: Grateful for Friends

All this month on the Pink Paislee blog, we are sharing ideas for the theme of “gratitude” or “family”. Today I have mixed a couple of Pink Paislee lines on my layout, the Butterfly Garden line and the Nantucket line.  That is one thing about Pink Paislee papers that I love so much -  they coordinate so well, no matter what papers you choose!

Journaling says, “So grateful for friends! Taylor, Kati, Makayla and Madelynn Chandler at the pumpkin patch this year. 10-2011″

I started the layout by choosing papers I liked together from the Butterfly Garden and Nantucket lines, and just punched 2″ circles out of them with my Fiskars punch. I placed them on white cardstock. Next, I used a bunch of photos from our pumpkin picking this year.  My girls had some friends come along with us this time, and it was a great photo opportunity! :)

I used some Nantucket Ribbon Trims (yellow stripe), a Nantucket Clear Stamp (script text), a heart pin from my stash, a little clock brad from the Vintage Vogue line and the alphabet letters from the Phantom line.

Some of the photos I took in the pumpkin patch were taken far away, so I was able to punch the small faces out and add them inside these patterned paper circles.

I printed out some journaling and added it to the bottom of my page, then added some strips of paper and Core’dinations cardstock around the edge of the layout.

What are you grateful for this season?

It’s all in the details!

Hello! This is Danielle with today’s “Designer Details.”

Paying special attention to details while crafting is really one of the things I love so much about it. I love to create little surprises here and there in my work and add lots of layers and details. Similar to home decor design, layers add much more depth to the design and make it more interesting. Layers also give your details a home to rest, so they aren’t “floating” on your design.

Since the autumn season is almost here, I wanted to put together a “Gratitude” album – things I feel grateful for right now in my life. However, I wanted to try something different and NOT use the traditional fall colors for my album. I used the brand new Nantucket line instead! Who said “Gratitude” albums had to be all brown? Make them fun and colorful!

For the base of my mini album, I cut several pages out of light kraft cardstock for a neutral base and built my pages from there. On the cover, I have added details such as the machine stitching around the edges of the papers. I’ve stamped the sentiments right on patterned paper instead of cardstock. The design in the papers shows through the stamping and adds yet another detail!

On the new Pink Paislee Wood Shop letters, I chose to dress them up with a small sentiment stamp that says, “life is beautiful”. Keep in mind the scale of the stamp. Since the letters are rather skinny, I chose a small font for the sentiment on the wood letters. I’m not sure what it is about dimension, but I can’t get enough of adding dimension to my work. These new Wooden Spools you see below (black) are adorable! I couldn’t wait to use them in my album. They are dimensional, but they don’t stick up too high, so they are great for layouts as well!

The next detail I wanted to add are these tabs to the top of the album. When making a mini album, I love to see things sticking out of the book to really entice the viewer to want to see what’s inside!  Again I used patterned paper here on two of the tabs and machine stitched across them to add another dimension and detail to them.

On the first inside spread, I wanted to use this big photo of my daughter Taylor and write a note to her about what I’m grateful for. Since she is the older daughter, sometimes I feel like I don’t give her enough attention and love compared to my little one who needs more help with things, and therefore gets more attention. I wanted to write a special note to her to tell her just how much I love the young woman she’s growing into! I chose to write the note on vellum instead of the patterned paper. I love, love this patterned paper on the left and didn’t want to cover it up!

On the second page spread, I used a photo that I really love of my girls spending time together to show how grateful I am for the happy moments we have together!

I used a little strip of a paper doily and layered two of the same stamped images together, just in slightly different ink colors.

Another photo I treasure here. I used another of the Wooden Spools and a button and twine to create a faux “enclosure”. I think it helps draws your eye to the photo.

To add depth to the envelope, I stamped it, flicked white paint on it with a toothbrush and added some hand dyed seam binding. I wrote a little note about the picture and tucked it inside the envelope.

An inexpensive detail you can make yourself is a little tab. Just stamp a sentiment three times onto kraft paper, add some white paint splashes and a bit of machine stitching. Trim with decorative scissors. I even like to leave the ends of the thread attached and dangling.

I plan to add many, many more pages to my book, however this is the last page I will show you today. One of the details on this spread I want to talk about is the patterns I used.  Adding three patterns – one large pattern like the to/from sticker, one medium like the green/blue paper, and one small pattern like the Chevron stripes, will really add interest to your design. I wrote another note inside the vintage book paper, folded it in thirds and added it to my book. I love tucking notes and things into my books that my girls will find one day and be able to read from me.

I made my own little tab to adhere to this sticker and added some Daily Junque – Twine.

Repeating a stamp is a fun way to add detail to plain old cardstock. When finished with all of these pages, I tied the book together with embroidery floss, an inexpensive way to do so!

I hope that gave you some inspiration to add more details to your work as well! Please let me know if you have any questions. Almost all of the products here are Pink Paislee. The Gratitude stamps and ribbon are made by Papertrey Ink and the envelope is by Maya Road. Thanks for reading today!

Bits and Pieces {Short Stories}

Hi everyone I always enjoy using all the different bits and pieces that Pink Paislee put together in their collections, there is no shortage of  all  things to make a layout fun.

Today I am showing you a layout that I created using the “Daily Junque Collection” using a tiny Passport Photo that I just love and wanted to document.  This was Chaise’s first ever Passport Photo, and I wanted to remember just how hard it was to get this photo.

Poor Chaise was not allowed to smile or laugh, and by the time we had finished I thought he was going to cry, I felt so very bad.  We must have taken a least 50 photos to finally end up with the end result – and here it is.

I created the Title by using the gorgeous “Expression Cushion Alphabets in Merinque” and “Old School Glitter Alpha Stickers, I placed my journaling to the left hand side of the layout so it followed the flow of the layout with the embellishments, it says “It was so hard for Chaise , as he was not allowed to smile” , I will never forget this.

Here are some close ups of the embellisments and photo.

I also kept the receipt for the photos which I rolled up and stuck to the top of the layout on the left hand side.

I also cut out bits and pieces of papers and chipboard embellishments to finish of the layout.

Other Materials Used:

Daily Junque “Junque Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “News Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Tabs Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Clear Stamps”

Thanks so much for popping by, and I hope you have fun creating with a photo that is a little different from usual.

Product Pick: Daily Junque Clear Stamps

Today we are featuring the Daily Junque stamp set, and I have a few cards to show you that I made with this fun set! There are so many things you can do with it, such as travel cards and scrapbook pages, days of the week pages, miss you cards, birthday cards…well, the possibilities are endless, really! Check out this gorgeous package. You get a TON of stamps:

My first card was inspired by the “top priority” saying and the numbers list. I stamped these two onto the Daily Junque – MAP patterned paper with red and blue ink. Don’t be afraid to stamp directly onto patterned paper! A patterned paper can add a lot more pizazz to your card than plain cardstock.

I added a balloon from the Daily Junque – Ephemera and some red cardstock stars that were punched with a Fiskars star punch. The red border is also a stamp from the Daily Junque stamps! I’ll be using that one a lot today.

The “you” is cut from a Papertrey Ink die (Wonderful Words) out of Soiree – Trellis paper.

Next, I made a “Miss You” card. I loved the little envelope in the stamp set, so I stamped it in red and cut it out, then tied it with Soiree Twine like a little package. I stamped the map twice onto the kraft paper and made a blue border – both with the Daily Junque stamps. The red check is a ribbon from my stash. The polkadot circle is a 2″ circle punched from a Sweetness – Love Blooms paper. The resin stars are by Melissa Frances.

The third card I made is a little more colorful – perfect for a birthday. I stamped the border in different colors and used some alphabet stamps from my stash for the sentiment:  “it’s your day”. I was going to use the lines as candles, but decided to turn them sideways and use them for journaling lines instead. You could certainly make candles out of them too! I stamped them onto white cardstock and cut them out, so I could rearrange them on my card as I was creating the design.

The little yellow hearts are from the Sweetness Glitter Letters, and the teal paper is Daily Junque – Tickets paper.

And one more card today…

I couldn’t resist using those frames in all different colors here…I used Papertrey Ink’s Berry Sorbet (peach) and Hawaiian Shores ink (blue), and Jenni Bowlin’s Lemon Drops ink (yellow). Flower is Prima. I cut a piece of the Soiree – Wood Shapes and inked it up with Hawaiian Shores ink.

When I stamped the sentiment, I masked off the words as I went, so I could stamp one or two words in each box, not the whole sentiment at one time.

I hope this gave you a little bit of card inspiration today. Which one is your favorite and why? :)

Inspired by a Live Pink member!

Hi all!  Today I’m here to show you some things that I made while inspired by one of our members in the Live Pink Gallery. If you are not familiar with Live Pink, it’s a great place to get inspiration from others using Pink Paislee products! I chose this frame by Mona Pendleton to inspire me:

What inspired me about it, you might ask?

First of all, it’s beautiful!! Second of all, I was inspired by the amazing embossed edges on the frame and the fun, carefree banner!

I dug into my Cuttlebug embossing folders and quickly got to work.

This is the first card I made:

I used the Cuttlebug embossing folder called Iron Works and ran my card through the Cuttlebug twice, once to get the bottom border embossed and then another time to emboss the top border, like the inspiration piece which had embossing around the edges of the design. I cut my own banner shapes from the Daily Junque – Junque paper and strung them on with Daily Junque twine! I used some Soiree stamps for the sentiment and stars.

For the second card, I used the Cuttlebug embossing folder called Measure for Measure 7″ Border and placed it in the center of my card.

I used the Daily Junque stamps (long border) and the Soiree stamps (banner and wording). The dimensional butterfly is created by punching 3 of them with my Martha Stewart punch with Daily Junque papers and layering them.

On the last card, I decided to try something new. I used the Soiree wood shape banner, inked it up first with Hawaiian Shores ink by Papertrey Ink.

Then I carefully ran it through my Cuttlebug machine layered over the white cardstock. I put a sheet of felt under the cardstock, to help it emboss better. The wood piece actually embossed my card and stamped it all at the same time!

Then I ran my card through the Cuttlebug two more times to emboss the stars (made two rows of stars). The stars are from the Measure for Measure set again by Provo Craft. I embossed the stars on an angle.

I added a punched star from the Soiree – Words paper, a banner sticker from the Soiree Flags, and stamped “birthday” with the Soiree stamps (pin by Maya Road and pearl by Melissa Frances).

Thanks so much for swinging by the Pink Paislee blog today!
